CAT SPAY SCHEME FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY

Last Hope Animal Charity Cat Spaying Scheme
Last year, Last Hope Animal Charity faced the highest number of cats and kittens abandoned and in need of our help than any other year since we began operating over ten years ago.

In order to prevent such high numbers again this year, for the month of February, we will have a Spaying Scheme running in Smith and Foley Vets Navan and Kells, and Joseph Neylon Vets Dunboyne.

This scheme will run for the month of February and we are focusing on female cats initially. We will be running another scheme closer to the summer months which will be open to male cats. The reason that we are only offering this to female cats at the moment is because female cats are preparing to breed at this time of year and by offering discounted spaying to over 180 cats, we are preventing 360 litters of kittens being born this year alone. We cannot emphasize enough the importance of neutering, it helps to prevent the spread of disease, it can help in preventing cancer and most importantly, prevent more kittens being born unnecessarily.

For those who wish to avail of this scheme, Last Hope will pay €25, the owner of the cat will pay €25 and the vets will cover the remainder of the fee. This offer is open to anyone that would like to avail of it and the vouchers will be given out by the vets on a first come first served basis. If you would like to offer a home to a dog or a cat in our care, please fill in the relevant form and email it to admin@lasthope.ie

Once we have received your form, we will organise a home visit. This is an informal visit where a volunteer will meet with you and see where it is the animal will be living and to ensure the home meets the requirements of the animal.

If adopting a kitten from Last Hope, it must be kept indoors until it is 6months old and neutered. If adopting an adult cat, they must be kept indoors for a minimum of 4 weeks. Please note, outdoor cats will not be rehomed in homes on busy/main roads.

Where There’s a Will, There’s A Way

For a number of years, Last Hope Animal Charity has been working tirelessly in the Meath area, taking in animals from all walks of life, providing them with the veterinary treatment they need, giving them the love they deserve and finding them wonderful homes. Of late, we have taken in a number of pets whose owners passed away. In light of this, we have decided to set up a scheme for those who are concerned about what will happen to their pet should they pass away.

Many people make provisions for their family and their assets, but are unsure of what options they have for their pets – though many people have family members who would be only too happy to take in these pets, others don’t have family to turn to.

To date, a number of Last Hopes supporters have made provisions for their pets in their will – in the event of them passing away, their pets will be taken in to our care – this gives them great comfort, knowing that their pets will be looked after and comforted during a difficult time.

As she is a Husky she will need a secure garden with fencing that is 10ft and no access to livestock. Mosha will make a super pet in the right active home and will give you so much love. Bella a beautiful bull breed x needs a home

Bella is a 6month old bull breed x. She is great with children, loves cats even if they are a bit wary of her. Great with other dogs and is good on the lead. Brilliant traveller in the car. Loves to play and seems to have a taste for fake tan as she ran away with her fosterers tanning mit! Loves cuddles and just generally being spoilt.  When Bella came to us, she had been injured by a dog and suffered multiple bite wounds and a bad injury to her eye. Her eye is healing but she may have issues with sight in that eye as a result. She is still a bit nervous due to the way she was treated before she came to us, but is coming along nicely. Ben, a gorgeous Bunny needs a home

“This is Ben. He is a fabulous little male bunny – less than one year old, neutered and fully vaccinated against Myxamatosis and VHD. He loves nothing more than to run around the back garden and even into the house. He loves life and loves company. He does not love being held but it getting used to this. He originally was homed with a lovely little kitten and was best friends. We would love to find a home where Ben would have company – another bunny or even a kitten!

These gorgeous terrier x puppies are looking for their forever homes. Aged approximately 3.5 months they are fun loving, sweet and affectionate. They get on well with cats, dogs and are good with children too but as typical puppies, they can nip a little. We are not too sure of the breed, but it could be Staffy x terrier but its hard to know! Family fun day

Thanks to everyone who came along to our fun day & made it the success it was. The turn out was amazing & it was great to see so many of our supports & dogs we’ve had in our care at some stage! And many, many thanks to Navan Race Course for providing the venue – without them it would not have been possible.

Daisy, an elderly terrier x needs a home

Daisy is a 12 year old white and black terrier. x. She is in great health for a girl her age but is a bit overweight. She is up  to date with vaccinations and worming Daisy would make a great  companion dog and watchdog. she is very good on the lead and in the  car.

Skydive for Last Hope Animal Charity August 2012

For the first time ever, LHAC will be holding a charity Skydive fundraising event. This event will take place on the Saturday 11th August 2012, giving all willing participants plenty of time to fundraise the required amount. A €25 deposit is required to secure your place, and a minimum of of €500 will need to be raised in order to participate.

It will be a tandem skydive but may not be for the faint hearted so we would ask anyone thinking of signing up for it to give it plenty of due thought and consideration before making a commitment. In saying that, it will no doubt be an exhilarating and thrilling experience and a memory to a last a lifetime! Fosterers Urgently Needed

Times are hard for everyone and with so many people out of work, we know that it is difficult to offer animals a home. However, fostering is a brilliant way to help us, all bedding and food is provided and nobody is ever out of pocket. Fostering is rewarding and so much fun and for those who have spare time on their hands, it is a great way to contribute to charity without spending money.

We desperately need fosterers (ideally within 40 mile radius of Navan). If you are interested, please contact us.
